If you think doing lower ab exercises can get you ripped abs, think again. Doing lower ab exercises to get six pack abs can be one of the most misleading notions out there. Having visible, well-muscled abs require having disciplined eating habits and regular physical activity in order to increase our body’s metabolism.
Doing lower ab exercises can strengthen the lower abdominal, hip and back muscles, thus preventing injuries, but exercises focusing on that one area alone cannot tone and expose those abs.
Spot reducing does not work. Directly exercising on the problem area of the lower abs is not effective in burning fat at that spot. We need to do overall body exercises to affect our whole body to get rid of the excess stomach fat.
To get well-defined abs, we need to increase our metabolism. Through our diet, we need to make sure we eat quality foods that our body can easily burn. When our body is able to burn the food we eat, it will then burn the excess fat that we have for further energy production.
Eating several times a day will help our body maintain its energy levels and help stabilize our blood sugar. Also by consuming smaller meal portions, we can control the amount of calories we consume and help our body utilize the calories with greater efficiency.
Another way to jumpstart our metabolism is through resistance training. Continually challenging our muscles results in hungrier muscles, leading to a greater consumption of energy. This means more excess fat is utilized to fuel those muscles.
Meanwhile, engaging in anaerobic interval training builds explosive and highly reactive muscles that require more energy. Thus, increased muscle activity allows our body to be more efficient in burning excess fat stores, leading to continued fat burning even hours after training.
It is not possible to get six pack abs by doing just lower ab exercises. Spot reducing does not work and in order to really have well-defined abs, we must understand and make changes in our diet and exercise program, so we are able to increase our metabolism.
