Are liquid meals good enough to build muscle?

If you’ve recently started a weightlifting program and are trying to increase your calories in order to build muscle, you may be wondering about liquid meals. These meals, better known as protein powders, are helpful supplements when trying to increase your calories. But are they really necessary?

If you think you can simply get away with using protein shakes in place of a solid diet program, there are a few things you should consider.

Always keep in mind that these kinds of products were made for convenience, and they should not be used to replace the rest of your diet. You may be missing out on some much needed nutrients, including vitamins and fiber, if you concentrate your efforts solely on protein powders.

If you’re serious about your workout program and want to achieve the best results possible, you’ll want to give your body the best fuel available. Unfortunately, protein shakes do not represent the best of the best when it comes to choosing proper nutrition.

Aside from the overall health aspects, you’re probably going to get tired of taking the same old shakes all the time! If you don’t treat these protein powders as supplements that take them all to time, you’re going to get sick of them and may even want to do away with your entire muscle building project.

Do yourself a favor and get most of your calories (at least 60%) from whole foods.

So let me ask you - are you counting on weightlifting supplements to make up for a poor diet or inadequate training? You would do better to save your money and focus on the fundamentals instead of looking for a shortcut. So many people have found out the hard way that taking muscle building supplements (or weightlifting supplements) is not a shortcut to gaining lean muscle mass.

Even protein powders, which are relatively helpful supplements, are not absolutely necessary. While they’re helpful when it’s difficult to consume adequate calories or protein, a bunch of powder with artificial ingredients thrown in is not a substitute for a solid, healthy meal plan.
