Infomercials are entertaining, but they are also very profitable for the people behind the scenes. Have you seen any infomercials lately?
And the most surprising aspect of all of this is that people actually pull out their credit cards in the wee hours of the morning and order these things!
So here is a review and analysis of gadgets to avoid in your fat loss quest:
1. Bosu balls: Now bosu balls do have their place for those wishing to increase balance and core stabilization to a certain degree. However, if you want to maximize fat loss, stay away from bosu balls and focus on complex free weight movements that challenge your entire body.
2. Circular disc trainers: I’m sure you’ve seen the endless oodles of personal trainers using these contraptions in commercial gyms. Again, do you want to increase balance or burn the most amount of fat? If you goal is fat loss, then stick with free weights.
3. Big air filled balls: Now these aren’t a complete waste if you want to work your abdominal wall while also having back support. But they aren’t effective for using maximal loads-the best type of training for weight loss. So make sure you don’t focus on these too heavily.
4. Weightlifting straps: The cotton ones can be very painful as they tend to dig into skin. So make sure you use ones with neoprene padding. Also, make sure you don’t abuse these as they will retard forearm development. And you want strong forearms for everyday living.
5. Strap-like trainers: There are a couple of these trainers on the market right now. Again, the main issue here is that it’s very hard to use maximal weights when training with these. You are far better off sticking with basic compound movements.
If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is. You cannot get a six pack by doing 10 minutes of crunches twice a week. I’m sorry, but this just won’t happen. So make sure you stay away from the marketing hype, and stick to the basics!
